Harchenko Mary Alexandrovna. My great grandmother is a rear veteran. When wars’ actions started she lived with her parents in Mikhailovka in Altai. She was only 11. She says that all who could fight were taken away, instead of children, old people and invalids. Those who could not participate in hostilities also were not left without work: they were taken to work that was aimed at one thing - to help the Soviet Army. At first she and some children were in a detachment which repaired damaged railway tracks. Every day, from morning to night, they repaired the railways - it was necessary at all costs to keep within the allotted time. From her word the food was very, very little and once when the food ended she with girl was sent to the nearest village to try to get food from the inhabitants. And it was really morally difficult to ask food from people who were at the same situation. Then she helped to handle field for planting. It was too hard because it was done barefoot and it took all day. Legs and arms did not obey her; her back ached from the pain, - says she. She worked without weekends and holidays in order to achieve a common goal. It was awful time because no one interested in your health status. It did not matter sleep you or not, eat you not - everyone must do the most of the set plans. She remembers that time with tears in her eyes.

Now she is 86 years. She has 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and we all are proud of her and really thankful to her. She has many awards and we with pleasure and interest listen about everyone. She wishes that the modern generation will not have to go through such troubles through which our grandparents once passed.

Kuznetsov Pyotr Ivanovich. He was born on January 23, 1913 in the Kuibyshev region The Stavropol district, the village of Hreshchovka. He died on April 15, 1982.

Firstly, he was on the Finnish war since 1939, also he was a tankman, there he got a contusion and therefore he was called on The Great Patriotic War in 1942. He was called on the front from the Samara region.

He began war near Stalingrad at once. Later he freed the Baltic and Poland, and finished the war in Czechoslovakia. Though war also ended, the grandfather continued to serve because fascists disappeared in the woods.

He was in destructive battalion of tanks, he was a driver – he carried shells, guns. Also he was a commander.

He was awarded by a red star, medal for honor. Only two are known, in practice there was much.

He came back home in 47-48 years all covered with wounds, and the great-grandmother nursed him – collected herbs, presoaked and put to wounds, gave to drink infusions, after war he lived some more years. He never told anything about a war. He didn't like to remember, every time he was smothered by tears and he kept silent because all his youth passed through the war.

By grandfather’s words

The fatal meeting…

My grandfather was born in 1924. He went to the front when he was 17 years old. My grandmother was born in 1925. She worked in a rear as a fisherwoman and she sent fishes to soldiers as canned goods. Also, she worked in a hospital as a volunteer. And during The Second World War she helped to save a lot of lives of ordinary people and soldiers. From the words of my father, my grandparents met at the hospital, when my grandfather wounded in the leg because of mine explosion. The surgeons tried to do their best, but, unfortunately, the wound was strong and there was a choice either a life or a leg. And it was sensible to choose a life but without a leg. After The Second World War in 1946 my grandparents met again. And they decided to marry and to create a family in those hard times. So, they had a big family with 6 children and my father is the last child.

Unfortunately, I have never seen them, but I am very proud of my grandparents. And I am very grateful for our peaceful life: Grandfather: Musaev Abdulmamed Ali oglu; Grandmother: Musaeva Mine Talib gizi.

Wait for me, and I’ll come back! Wait with all you’ve got! Wait, when dreary yellow rains Tell you, you should not. Wait when snow is falling fast, Wait when summer’s hot, Wait when yesterdays are past, Others are forgot. Wait, when from that far-off place, Letters don’t arrive. Wait, when those with whom you wait Doubt if I’m alive.

Wait for me and I’ll come back, Dodging every fate! “What a bit of luck!” they’ll say, Those that would not wait. They will never understand How amidst the strife, By your waiting for me, dear, You had saved my life. Only you and I will know How you got me through. Simply – you knew how to wait – No one else but you.

Wait for me, and I’ll come back! Wait in patience yet When they tell you off by heart That you should forget. Even when my dearest ones Say that I am lost, Even when my friends give up, Sit and count the cost, Drink a glass of bitter wine To the fallen friend – Wait! And do not drink with them! Wait until the end!

Konstantin Simonov, 1941
